Archaeological expeditions are one of the key areas of research activity of the museum. They are, on the one hand, a powerful source of regular replenishment of the museum’s collection; on the other – very effective (field) school for museum workers to improve their qualification level and methodological culture. Besides forwarding materials are scientifically proved base for effective organization of research, as well as cultural and educational activities of the museum.
In the period from 2011 to 2013 the CSM RK on license No.0158127 from 11.07.2011 (for three years) on archaeological and (or) research and restoration work on the history and culture monuments of archaeological expedition of two museum’s units – Kultobe and Karatau were carried out. In 2014, on license No.14006603 from 05.14.2014, (one year) archaeological excavations in Almaty and South Kazakhstan regionswere continued.
From 2011 to 2014 during the course of archaeological expeditions by Karatau then Akterek archeological group under the direction of archaeological center head Kh. Aitkul new archaeological sites – Taldysu-1, Kurkureuk burials, related to the Bronze Age (10th-9th centuries BC) and the early Iron Age (4thc. BC –4th century AD) in Almaty region on the archaeological complex of monuments on the settlements and burials Akterek and Sulu Koyan were revealed. GRS coordinates of Akterek and Sulu Koyan burials are 43 T 539419 4787845.
By Kultobe archeological group under the direction of senior researcher of the archaeological center A.N. Podushkin excavations in Kultobe, Kylyshzharand Kultobe burials relating to Arys culture (4th c. BC –4th century AD) are conducted. By Kultobe expedition archaeological complexes related to the Saka culture (4thc. –1stc. AD), Sarmatian culture (1st c. BC –3rdc. AD), Sünnu (Hun) culture (1st c. BC –3rdc. AD)are excavated.
As a result, the museum fund has artifacts representing samples of the above mentioned archaeological cultures: zoomorphic products of mud clay and bronze, ceramic vessels with zoomorphic transformations in ceramics in the animal style, iron arrowheads, horse harness, zoomorphic pendants of bronze, Egyptian faience, items in gold turquoise style, iron swords, daggers in scabbards. Material samples of paleolinguistics of Kangui ancient writing (2nd century BC- early 3rdc. BC), consisting of 15 fragments of fired clay tables written by Aramaic epigraphy on one of the dialects of the eastern ancient Iranian (Sogdian) language are also of particular interest. Note also that in this embodiment, on ceramic bricks-tables – for the above mentioned time a letter in the whole region of Central Asia is unique.
Total for 2011-2014 archaeological collection of the CSM RK by items of museum value, in the amount of 540 units are replenished. Archaeological artifacts in the history and culture of Kazakhstan are of great scientific interest. According to the archaeological expeditions made scientific reports on national and international scientific conferences, scientific articles in national and international scientific journalswere published.
